About this competition
At Internode, we're serious about Chumby's, and we’re lucky enough that our friends at APC and Adobe Systems are too - so we're giving you, the budding widget developer, a chance to win your very own Chumby prize pack valued up to $2144!
To be in the running, all you have to do is develop a localised Chumby widget to share with your fellow Australian Chumby fans. You can be as creative as you like, but remember that your Chumby widget has to be as Australian as stubbies and thongs.
There are 2 award categories:- Highest rated widget
- The highest rated widget entered in the competition as seen on the Chumby Widget Guide
- Simon Hackett's pick
- The most creative Australian themed entry as judged by Simon Hackett, Internode’s Managing Director
The Major Prize will be awarded to the Highest Rated Widget and consists of your very own chumby, a copy of Adobe Flash CS4 Professional and an $800 credit towards Internode services. The consolation prize pack, which also includes a chumby and $200 credit towards Internode services, will be awarded to Simon Hackett’s Pick.
Need some inspiration?
We’ve thrown together some examples to help out. Check these out:
- An Australian BBQ Game
- Bureau of Meteorology weather updates
- Video content from Australian news media
- Traffic webcams in major cities
- Australian podcast archives
Seriously, anything that you can turn into an RSS feed you can easily turn into a widget. If it embodies the Australian way, it's in with a chance!

Virtual chumby
You don't need a real chumby to develop your widgets, it's easy - just create a virtual chumby through chumby.com after you register your account. You can upload your widgets in private mode during development for testing, and when you're done, make it public to enter it into the competition.
You can even host your virtual chumby on your personal website or facebook page if you want to get your friends involved.
New to developing in Flash?
Our friends at APC have included a quick guide to creating your own widget in their upcoming January edition – you can pick up a copy when it hits shelves on 17th December, 2008.
